Most of us have been lead to believe that immediately after a workout, (or within 30 minutes), we need to chow down on protein in order to build upon the muscle we just broke down.
Just look at all the protein powders, bars and drinks that line the walls heading out of the gym.
But don't worry if you miss the refuel opportunity within this narrow window. Studies show that you are still going to build muscle even if you eat much later after the gym session. Basically if you are hungry eat, if not, don't.
And if you do want to eat something remember, most people overestimate the amount of calories burned. Also, as you get in better shape, the same workout requires less energy to complete than when you were less fit.
A good post workout munch is a mixture of carbs and protein in the range of 250 calories. This combo slows the energy release and makes you feel full. Have a great workout.
